GAUGE
13 sts = 4"; 18 rows = 4" in St st. TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
BACK
With larger needles, cast on 57(62-67-72-76-83) sts. Work in St st for 3", end on RS.
Next Row (WS): Knit.
Next Row: K1, * k next st wrapping yarn twice around needle, rep from * to last st, k1.
Next Row: Knit, dropping extra yo's. Continue in St st until piece measures 9-1/2(9-1/2 - 9-1/2 -10 - 10 - 10)" from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armhole: Bind off 2(3-4-4-3-5) sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Dec Row 1 (RS): K2, sl 2 sts to cn and hold in BACK, k1, k2tog from cn, k to last 5 sts, sl 1 st to cn and hold in FRONT, ssk, k1 from cn, k2. Work 3 rows even. Rep last 4 rows 3(3-3-4-4-4) times more. Work even on remaining 45(48-51-54-60-63) sts until armholes measure 7(7-1/2 - 8 - 8-1/2 - 9 - 9-1/2)", end on WS.
Shape Shoulders: Bind off 6(6-7-7-8-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 6(7-8-8-9-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 21(22-21-24-26-27) sts for back neck.
LEFT FRONT
With larger needles, cast on 29(31-34-36-38-42) sts. Work in St st for 3", end on RS.
Next Row (WS): Knit.
Next Row: K1, * k next st wrapping yarn twice around needle, rep from * to last st, k1.
Next Row: Knit, dropping extra yo's. Continue in St st until piece measures 9-1/2(9-1/2 - 9-1/2 - 10 - 10 - 10)" from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armhole and Neck: Work armhole shaping at beg of RS rows same as for back. AT THE SAME TIME, when piece measures 10(10-1/2 - 11 - 11-1/2 - 12 - 12-1/2)" from beg, end on WS. Work neck shaping as follows:
Next Row (RS): Continue armhole shaping if necessary, work to last 4 sts, ssk, k2. Continue in this way to dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 6(6-6-6-8-10) times more, then every 4th row 4(4-4-5-4-3) times. AT THE SAME TIME, when same length as back to shoulder, shape shoulder at side edge same as for back.
RIGHT FRONT
Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping. Work neck decs at beg of RS rows as follows: K2, k2tog, work to end.
SLEEVES
With larger needles, cast on 26(28-29-30-31-30) sts. Work 8 rows in St st.
Inc Row (RS): K1, k into front and back of next st (inc 1), k to last 3 sts, inc 1, k2. Continue in St st, inc 1 st each side as before every RS row 0(0-0-0-0-3) times, every 4th row 0(1-4-6-12-11) times, every 6th row 6(7-5-4-0-0) times, then every 8th row 1(0-0-0-0-0) time. Work even on 42(46-49-52-57-60) sts until piece measures 16-1/2(17 - 17 - 17-1/2 - 17-1/2 - 18)" from beg, end on WS.
Shape Cap: Bind 2(3-4-4-3-5) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every 4th row same as for back armhole shaping 3(4-4-5-6-6) times. Bind off 5(11-5-12-13-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 6(0-6-0-0-7) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 10(10-11-10-13-12) sts.
FINISHING
Steam pieces lightly. Sew shoulder seams. Set in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. With RS facing, using crochet hook, beg at top of dropped st row on left front, work 1 row of backwards sc (from left to right) evenly along front and neck edges to top of dropped st row on right front. Fasten off. Beg at bottom of dropped st row on right front, work along front and lower edges to bottom of dropped st row on left front. Fasten off. Beg at seam, work around lower edge of sleeves.
I-cord Ties (make 2): With dp needles, cast on 2 sts.
*Next Row (RS): K2, do not turn work. Slide sts to beg of needle to work next row from RS. Rep from * until cord measures 12" long. Bind off. Sew 1 cord to each front at beg of neck shaping. |
