This KAL is all about texture!

We are excited to offer 5 patterns - to give you choices. All use worsted weight yarn or heavier so your new sweater will be finished in time to keep you cozy as temperatures and leaves begin to fall.

Models are in the store now - stop by and see how beautiful they are in person.

Andrew

KAL Mom: Cindy Craig

Andrew isn't the official name, but that's what we're calling it until Cindy names it.

On a texture scale of 1-5, this sweater rates a 10! A classic Aran-style pullover with a strong central cable motif. If you love cables like we do, this is the sweater for you. It's worked flat in pieces and seamed, with modified drop shoulder sleeves which give the effect of a set in sleeve with the simplicity of a drop shoulder.

This sweater is definitely not a 30 day sweater but we will get a good start on it and you will have a blast with all the cables.

This new pattern will be provided free to people who make it during the KAL.

Dauphine

KAL Mom: Jessica Kerrigan

A beautifully fitted and flattering cardigan, with gorgeous details on back and at wrist. The vertical lines, formed by slipped stitches, are universally flattering. There are just a few cable stitches in the pattern.

This cardigan is knit flat in pieces and seamed. It has set-in sleeves and a button band. Knits up super fast in bulky yarn.

KAL Mom: Monta Morris

We like the unusual ribbed yoke and the flattering diagonal stitch pattern. The neckline is both stretchy and stable. Sleeve and body length are easily adjusted. This sweater is knitted in one piece from the top down. The stitch pattern is easy enough to do while watching Netflix - but is is somehow much more engaging than straight stockinette stitch.

Jaiden

KAL Mom: Karen Mitchell (Lynn Haffner is the Godmother)

A modern take on the classic gansey style pullover, worn by fisherman across the North Sea. Jaiden is worked from the top down in one piece. It features a textured yoke, raglan sleeves, and knitted “elbow patches.”

Neck shaping ensures a perfect fit. Double seed stitch is hypnotically easy to knit. There is almost no finishing. Flattering on both men and women.

Weekender

KAL Mom: Carol Eddington

Knitted in the round with bottom up construction, drop shoulder, faux seams, positive ease, side vent at ribbed bottom band, no finishing.

An easy, yet engaging sweater that will be your go-to for outdoors and chilly, cozy weekends. You'll add to your knitting knowledge with tubular cast on and bind off, German short row shaping, and picking up stitches for the sleeves. Body length and sleeve length are easily altered, and the pattern could also be knitted without sleeves.

We will host fun help sessions throughout October, and will send you tutorials and resources each week to help you successfully complete your sweater.

Participants are invited to exclusive events to begin and conclude the KAL, as well as loads of help sessions throughout October. You will also receive a custom project bag with goodies. Prize drawings are included at the end of the KAL.

Pick your pattern

Choose and purchase your pattern - all except Cindy’s are available on Ravelry. Cindy will provide her pattern free to those who make it during the KAL.

Purchase or order yarn

Three of our models were done in Friday Harbor, a new yarn from Cascade. It’s slightly tweedy - enough to give visual interest, but not enough to inhibit stitch definition. It's a very comfy, soft blend of 80% merino and 20% silk. We all loved working with it.

You have lots of other yarn options, too. Studio staff will be glad to help you choose yarn colors and quantities. Place your yarn order by Sept. 16 to ensure that you're ready to cast on Oct. 1.

Let us help with fit and gauge

We have prepared measurement sheets for each pattern. Once you sign up, we will be glad to help you with your measurements and gauge so you can make a sweater that fits.

Don’t cast on till October!

You can swatch before then to determine what size needles to use, but delay casting on till the start of our KAL on Oct 1.

How does a KAL work?

A knit along (KAL) is a little different than a conventional class. We’re all working toward the same goal: finishing our sweaters by Nov. 1.

Your moderators will explain, demonstrate, and teach pattern techniques. We’ll be available to help and answer your questions during multiple KAL sessions during the month. A KAL is more like a team effort (and a party!) than a class. We will all be supporting and cheering each others’ progress.

Can I sign up after Oct. 1?

The KAL runs from Oct. 1 through Nov. 1. You can sign up at any time before the end of the KAL, but we will officially conclude on Nov. 1.

Do I have to order my yarn through The Studio?

The Studio has lots of beautiful yarn choices in stock and available for order, so you can get the color you want. We will gladly help you choose colors and quantities. If you order by Sept. 16, your yarn will be available before the KAL begins. When you purchase your yarn through The Studio, you help keep the store healthy, but it is not a requirement of the KAL.

What tools and supplies will I need?

Please purchase your pattern and yarn. Patterns include tools and recommended needle sizes. Swatch to be sure you’re using the right size needles.
